WHY I RIDE
Riding 220+ Miles To Break the Cycle of Breast Cancer
- More than 11,500 women 40 and under are diagnosed with breast cancer each year
- Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women 15-54
- There are nearly 250,000 women in the United States under the age of 40 currently living with breast cancer.
Sponsored by The Hershey Company, Hershey's Tour de Pink annual multi-day cycling event benefits Young Survival Coalition (YSC), the premier international organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women and breast cancer. Over the course of 3 days (September 23rd-25th), William Anthony Dean (Tony) will be joining 175 cyclers riding 227 miles from Morristown, NJ to Long Branch, NJ. While all riders must raise at least $2,500 each for the Young Survivors Coalition, William Anthony Dean has set his goal at $3500.
Tony used to be a manager at Urban Outfitters when his favorite person at the corporate office, Kristen Martinez, and one of his co-workers, Amanda Barber, were diagnosed with cancer. This is what motivated him to get involved with Young Survivors Coalition. After attending many fundraiser events for the coalition, he decided this year to participate in one by riding in the Hershey's Tour de Pink cycling event. Tony will ride in honor of Kristen and Amanda, and in memory of his cousin, Tedra, as well. Although this is to benefit the young women who have cancer, Tony will also be riding in memory of his grandmother and a host of other women who have been touched by cancer, as well.
Hershey's Tour de Pink benefits Young Survival Coalition (YSC), the premier international organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women and breast cancer. YSC works with survivors, caregivers and the medical, research, advocacy and legislative communities to increase the quality and quantity of life for women diagnosed with breast cancer ages 40 and under.
